Meet Jules Pansu — 140 Years of French Jacquard Craftsmanship
Some brands create products. Jules Pansu preserves a craft.
When you hold a Jules Pansu cushion, you're holding more than a decorative accessory. You're holding over 140 years of French weaving expertise, centuries-old textile traditions, and craftsmanship that has remained remarkably unchanged in a world of mass production. At Amier Home, we believe every piece in your home should tell a story, which is exactly why we're proud to bring Jules Pansu to New Zealand.
The story begins in 1871, when Jules Pansu left his family's weaving mill in Isère to apprentice in an upholstery workshop in Lyon. After years spent mastering the art of weaving, he established his own workshop in Paris in 1878. From humble beginnings on Rue de Cléry, the business grew into one of France's most respected textile houses. More than 140 years later, the Pansu family continues to produce woven textiles celebrated around the world for their exceptional craftsmanship, artistry, and enduring quality.
What makes Jules Pansu truly special is its dedication to traditional Jacquard weaving. Unlike printed fabrics, every design is woven directly into the textile using remarkable Jacquard looms capable of controlling up to 12,000 individual warp threads. This intricate process creates rich textures, subtle colour variations, and extraordinary depth that simply cannot be replicated with surface printing. The colours become part of the fabric itself, resulting in textiles that are not only beautiful but exceptionally durable and designed to stand the test of time.
Every Jules Pansu cushion is woven in Halluin, France, at Les Tissages de la Lys, a workshop recognised with the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label. This distinction is reserved for French manufacturers who preserve exceptional craftsmanship and traditional expertise, reflecting the dedication and skill behind every piece that leaves the workshop.
Beyond its weaving heritage, Jules Pansu has earned international recognition through its collaborations with the art world. In 2009, the company began an official partnership with the Picasso Estate, producing woven cushions and tapestries inspired by Pablo Picasso's iconic works. Since then, collaborations with renowned artists and museums have continued, with each artwork meticulously recreated using thousands of coloured threads rather than printed ink. The result is functional art that seamlessly combines culture, history, and craftsmanship within the home.
At Amier Home, we're passionate about curating brands that offer more than beautiful design. Jules Pansu reflects everything we value: authentic French craftsmanship, traditional weaving techniques, exceptional quality, and timeless design that transcends passing trends. These are heirloom-quality textiles with genuine history and meaning, created to be enjoyed for years rather than seasons.
A beautifully woven cushion has the power to transform a room in ways that printed fabrics simply can't. As natural light moves throughout the day, the woven threads reveal new layers of texture and depth, bringing warmth, richness, and character to your interior. Whether styled on a sofa, an occasional chair, or layered on a bed, a Jules Pansu cushion becomes more than a finishing touch—it becomes part of your home's story.
We're proud to offer a carefully curated collection of Jules Pansu cushions, bringing over 140 years of French textile heritage to homes across New Zealand. If you appreciate authentic craftsmanship, timeless design, and pieces with a story worth telling, we invite you to discover the beauty of French Jacquard weaving for yourself.
